BUILDING A WICKIUP (whole day) During the workshops we build a well-insulated shelter made of twigs and leaves, 2-3 m high and 2.5-3 m in diameter. The wickiup can have a fire inside and may even serve as winter dwelling. The workshops can be run any time in the year outside the snowy patches.

STARTING FIRE WITH BOW DRILL (ca. 3 hrs) This is the easiest primitive method of lighting fire. It was used by many Native Americans, especially in Canada. The fire is started by gradual production of charcoal created with a drill being drilled into another piece of wood with the help of a simple bow. The workshops give a lot of excitement to participants (although success in lighting the fire is not guaranteed!).

Here is some info how to make fire with a bow-drill

EDIBLE INVERTEBRATES
Edible insects, worms and snails of Central Europe. Workshops work out best in the second part of summer, esp. in August, when these creatures are biggest and most plentiful. During workshops we cook grasshoppers, ants, wasp larvae, beetle larvae, water beetles, dragonflies etc.
